Special Requests

Though we’ve been building our classical quartet music library for years, we understand that some couples may have music in mind that is not currently on our list.  We can’t purchase every piece of music, but if you provide it we will play it.  If you are interested in having our quartet play a song that is rarely or perhaps has never been played before by a classical ensemble then read on.  Virtually any song/piece of music can be played by our classical quartet and the following paragraphs explain how to acquire sheet music for your special song/piece.

The first place to start is Google, and what you want to search for is the title and artist/composer of the special song/piece and the instrumentation of the ensemble you are hiring, in this case flute, violin, viola and cello trio.

Ex. “Something Beatles sheet music flute violin viola cello quartet” or “Something Beatles sheet music string quartet”

Music that is written for two violins, viola and cello (aka string quartet) will also work because violin and flute are both non-transposing instruments with a similar range.  Although it sometimes exists, it’s not common to find pop music arranged for classical ensembles.  Piano sheet music does not generally work because the song/piece needs to be re-arranged for these instruments.  It can, however, be a useful starting point for a custom arrangement (last option below).

If Google doesn’t turn up an arrangement of the special song/piece you want, there is still hope.  These sites which allow you to download and print directly can be searched individually.  For some reason, Google doesn’t pick up all the content on these sites:

www.cacophonix.com

www.sibeliusmusic.com

www.musicnotes.com

www.music44.com

www.sheetmusic.plus.com

www.sheetmusicdirect.com

You can also contact these stores in Toronto to order music:

Long and McQuade RCM bookstore, (416) 585-2225

SoundPost, (416) 971-6990, 1-800-363-1512.

If no arrangement of your special song/piece exists (and this is the case for a lot of popular music to be played by a classical ensemble) you might consider hiring a professional arranger to write a custom arrangement for you.  The cost for us to do this is $40/hour and the average trio piece takes between 4-8 hours to arrange.  This involves transcribing, editing parts, voicing harmonies, inputting and laying out parts in Finale and printing them – all with careful thought given as to how we can best reproduce the spirit of the original in this new setting.

It’s a time intensive task, but it offers unlimited possibility for you to achieve a one-of-a-kind wedding processional, product reveal, wedding proposal, etc.  We don’t have to be the arrangers.  Sometimes we are too busy to do this ourselves and so we also recommend and use these fine arrangers:

Christian Overton: (416) 274-5875, http://www.clovertonemusic.com/

John Montgomery: (519) 641-5337

When you purchase a custom arrangement you can also get a copy of it for a keepsake.  Even if you don’t read music, it’s a great memento of that special moment.
